Bus from Foz do Iguaçu to SP is intercepted with about BRL 1 million in smuggling

The Brazilian Federal Revenue Office (RFB) conducted a major operation against the illegal transportation of smuggling in the early hours of this Sunday, 18. A bus with 15 passengers, which was going from Foz do Iguaçu to Sao Paulo, was intercepted with goods that could reach BRL 1 million.

The action to surprise the smugglers occurred near the neighboring city of São Miguel do Iguaçu (PR), detecting attempted illegal transportation of products on a large scale, according to the RFB. The inspection noticed that there was no authorization for the trip, which generated suspicion.

In the inspection of the collective were found electronics, luxury goods, automotive parts and banned substances. "The preliminary assessment estimates that the total value of the seized contraband exceeds BRL 1 million," said the IRS.

The bus was sent to the customs headquarters in Foz do Iguaçu and sealed. The passengers were released. "Investigations are continuing to identify those responsible for the transport and the origin of the illegal products," the federal agency stressed.

For the Federal Revenue Office, the fight against smuggling and tax evasion protects the economy. It also contributes to the safety of citizens, since some smuggled products, such as cigarettes, can be used to finance other illicit practices.
