On Friday (18), the Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized two loads of electronic products that were being transported on interstate buses without invoices. The seizures were made at km 470 on the BR 230, in the town of Riachão, 920 km from São Luís.
The first seizure took place at around 10.40am, when a PRF team was carrying out checks on the motorway and ordered a blue Scania/Comil Campione Dd bus to stop, which was being driven by a 45-year-old man. The vehicle had left the city of Altamira/PA for Balsas/MA.
During the approach, the PRF found several electronic products with a total value of approximately BRL 11,000 in the cargo compartment, including mobile phones and other electronic devices, all of foreign origin.
The goods were being transported with an invoice that described the products as a 'sound box', thus, in theory, constituting the crime of embezzlement.
Also according to the PRF, the bus driver was unable to say who owned the electronic goods and it was not possible to identify the perpetrator of the smuggling.
In view of the information obtained, it was initially found that the offences of Embezzlement and Fraud/Falsifying a tax document had been committed.
The goods were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service in Imperatriz.
The second seizure took place at around 11.30am, when the PRF stopped a black M. Benz/Mpolo paradiso LDR bus driven by a 37-year-old man. The vehicle had left the city of Goiânia/GO for the city of Balsas/MA.
During the inspection, a box containing electronic devices and another containing mobile phone covers and films were found. In both boxes were found several electronic devices of foreign origin, without tax documents, and the total value of the seizure was approximately BRL 67,600 in goods.
The PRF asked the driver for the invoice for the products, which he said he didn't have, thus constituting the offence of embezzlement, as the electronic goods were of foreign origin.
When the bus driver was asked who owned the electronic goods and accessories, he was also unable to provide any information, so it was not possible to identify the perpetrator of the smuggling.
In view of the information obtained, it was established, in principle, that there had been a case of Embezzlement. The seized material was sent to the Federal Revenue Service in Imperatriz for the appropriate measures.
