Federal Revenue finds BRL 332,000 in goods inside seized bus

On Tuesday (15), BRL 332,000 in various goods were found in a bus that was boarded during a Federal Revenue operation. The bus was seized on 16 July near the São Miguel do Iguaçu toll plaza at 11:30 in the morning. One of the passengers stopped claimed that he was not the owner of the goods, but that he would get a return ticket from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo as long as he took over the goods during the journey.

The bus, which is on the premises of Foz do Iguaçu Customs, was unpacked and checked today during the day. Officials from the Division for Surveillance and Repression of Smuggling and Embezzlement (DIREP) found beverages, toys, food, footwear, cigarettes, various electronics, cameras, computer accessories, glasses, perfumes, clothes, mobile phones and video games inside the vehicle. False bottoms were found inside the bus with several mobile phones - new and reconditioned - as well as mobile phones hidden inside the vehicle's drinks cooler.

The Federal Revenue Service emphasises the importance of combating the practice of smuggling and embezzlement, which harms the national economy and jeopardises the safety of the population.
